Eric gave the Janitor a rather innocent shrug and behind his back gave a quick point to Violet, smiling when the young woman gave him a glance before continuing on.

He wasn't particularly concerned with getting in trouble for his little...outburst, everyone and their mother got drunk sometimes and he was sure that the people of Tycho were absolutely no exception to that rule.

As they wandered the hall however he couldn't help but notice the...sparseness of the place. The station itself seemed far more empty than it should have been, though the reason why seemed lost on him. He frowned for a moment as he looked around, glancing at the few people that did pass them by. "Station seems a bit underpopulated."

    Eric said the words quietly.

If he would have thought about it he would have understood of course, the coup had hit Tycho Hard.

"Of course it is, kid." She muttered lowly to him.

"A lot of people died, others fled. It'll be awhile before Tycho is back up on it's feet completely." She added, shaking her head.

In the course of just a few weeks, she had seen more fighting than most people did in their lives. It was starting to take its toll on her. She was jumpier than she used to be, constantly looking over her shoulder.

Crowds were something that she outright avoided. Tycho wasn't the only one still reeling after the coup.

"There is a bright side to that though... means you shouldnae have too much trouble findin' yourself a proper job."

Weirdly enough, or perhaps appropriately, Eric didn't feel too good at taking the job of a dead man, particularly in a place like this. He frowned for a moment, looking around and then glancing at Violet. "Don't think I wanna work here."

He commented quietly as a man with an OPA Tattoo sprawled on his neck walked by.

"The Last Earther that did apparently didn't work out so well." He referred to Fred Johnson of course. That was a comparison that many would have scoffed at, Eric himself included, but right now it seemed apt. There was a reason that the man had been killed, and although Eric didn't know the whole story he could guess at the very least.

Being from Earth probably had a good bit to do with it.

A small trail of goosebumps ran up his spine as he was suddenly reminded about who owned this station.

Eric's answer was an appropriate one, and a fairly well thought out one. Which was mildly surprising. Given how things were starting to shape up in the Belt, maybe it would be best to offer the kid a proper place to stay until he could get his feet underneath him. That was something she would have to run by Dieter and Keith first. If he proved to be as capable as he claimed, that was. The Albatross was a small ship, and couldn't afford to take on a person who couldn't contribute.

Violet offered a friendly smile and a belter nod to the OPA man. Unless she opened her mouth, it wasn't entirely unbelievable for her to pass as a short Belter if she tried.

"You're nae wrong there, lad..." She muttered under her breath, walking towards the airlock door that would connect up with the Albatross.

She punched in the pass code needed to open the door and gestured for the recovering Earther to step inside.

Eric did so with no hesitation.

For some reason he was now feeling incredibly uncomfortable on Tycho. When he'd arrived things had actually looked up for him, though after hearing about Fred Johnson's death that had obviously turned itself around. Between sobering up and realizing that the OPA was stronger than ever here though...well it was easy to see why he was so weary.

"Right." Eric said quietly. "So what exactly do you need done?"

He still wasn't really feeling his best, his head was starting to hurt and his muscles ached a little bit, but he could swear she had mentioned something or another thing about tags.

Then again he might have imagined that. "It wasn't a full refit was it?"

Eric joked as he looked around the aging ship.

"That's t'come." Violet answered, already climbing the ladder that led up to the mess hall to grab another bottle of water from the fridge for the dehydrated Eric.

She listened carefully, curious if anyone else was on the ship at the moment. For now, it seemed as though everyone else was out.

"As for what I need from you, the tags on this are uh... outdated and need to be changed. Need to change the registration, IFF, the whole deal. Think y'can manage?"

She walked back over to him, offering the bottle of water to him with a lazy grin. It wasn't exactly an easy task that she was asking him to do.

    Eric raised an eyebrow.

    Outdated?

That was more than a little bit suspicious. Tags didn't just expire, mostly because they couldn't. Sure a ship could grow older and older, but the name was perfectly fine forever, even Mars and Earth didn't push those standards. New ownership transfers usually allowed for name changes, but IFF and such always stayed the same.

All of that of course tipped Eric off that this ship likely hadn't fallen into Violet's lap legally. He didn't know how she'd gotten it of course, but someone like her? He guessed that one day she just sneaked her way aboard and took it without anyone looking. "I see."

    He said quietly.

"And uhh..." He looked around, searching for signs of other people that might be about to clock him over the top of the head. "Why is it 'outdated'."

Violet grinned sheepishly to the man and innocently spread her hands out to her sides. There wasn't really much of an explanation that she could give that would jeopardize the entire operation that she had going.

"We sort of came by this thing via salvage, nae lookin' to fight through that bureaucratic nightmare of paperwork, y'ken?" It was actually pretty close to the truth. The only slight tweak was that they had taken the broken ship from a hangar instead of broken down in space. Violet had never been a very good liar, but she was fairly decent at dancing around the truth.

"If y'cannae do it, I can find someone else t'take care of it. Jus' thought I'd offer a chance for gainful employment to you."

"Uh huh." Eric said softly as he peeked around the corner.

Whatever it was, Eric knew that she wasn't telling the truth. People didn't just leave ships laying around as 'salvage'. Even the junkiest of craft was worth something to someone, no doubt this had either been stolen or taken by someone.

"I can do it." He assured her. "All of that will take mew a few days though."

The tags would have been easy enough on their own, but everything else she listed? That would take some time.

He was skilled at this, the work he had done on The Veri was pretty much exactly what Violet was asking, but there he had weeks between switches. Usually that had given him time to prepare and shift everything, here he would just need to get to work.

"Kaka felota! Sabaka!" Keith yelped, loud enough to hear his voice echo off the bulkheads of The Albatross. He was soldering a new line from the cargo bay that ran into the mess hall, after discovering the faulty connection. He must have found an exposed portion with the tool, as it started sparking and caused a power surge through the ship. He had cut the main feed to the line, but apparently it was still holding some residual power.

Keith stood up, waiting a few seconds to see if the power would recycle and kick back on. Fortunately, it did, much to his relief. Climbing through the mess that was their maintenance shaft was a pain that he could not wait to correct with the retrofits. He wiped some sweat from his brow with his sleeve, stopping again when he thought he heard voices inside the ship. He limped to the steep stairwell that lead to the rest of The Albatross, his leg still not fully recovered from its bullet graze. Listening for a moment, he confirmed there were people talking, and one was Violet.

"Oye! Down here, bossmang! Let me know if you need me, ya?" he called up, before heading back over to the power line to resume his work.

The angry shouts of the cursing Belter reached Violet's ears and she stepped over to the stair well to peer down towards the sound of his voice. There was an amused smirk on her lips. It was good to see that the man was still on board and was taking care of things. She leaned against the railing with arm, catching sight of his tall frame as he slipped off to return to his work.

"Actually, Keith, there's someone I want ya t'meet!"
She called back down to him. Raising her voice like that put a bit more strain than she would have liked on her side, but she just ignored it for the time being.

"Y'should come up here and say hello when y'get a chance!" She added, then looked back to Eric. If he was going to be sticking around long enough to change the codes, he might as well meet the rest of the crew while he was at it.

"Our resident Belter." She explained to the man, grinning faintly. "Knows more about computer systems than I can shake a stick at."

    Oh a Belter.

He shouldn't have been too surprised really, those types were always right around the corner even if you didn't actually know it. Eric didn't have anything against them of course, they were usually an alright folk to get along with, though a certain few were the types that you wanted to avoid.

Most of them were marked by an OPA Tattoo, easy enough to pick out of a crowd on even the toughest day. Of course sometimes they were a bit more sneaky, but that was no different than the occasional Terran or Martian.

Eric found that stereotypes were largely useless when dealing with people. Everyone was an asshole sometimes. "Ah."

    He finally said to Violet.

"Maybe he can help." Eric offered. "Might make things go faster."

    Oh, a visitor?

Keith set the soldering tool on his toolbox. He returned to the stairwell and climbed up the first few steps. His upper half appeared above the level of the deck; his arms reaching up further, gripping the rails. It caused his sleeves to slide down enough to reveal some of his tattoos, including the iconic OPA split-A.

Keith eyed the newcomer. It was someone he had never seen before, and he did not have the gaunt features of a Belter. He shifted his gaze to Violet. "Another Inya, Vi? I haven't had a chance to finish chopping up the last one."

He climbed the rest of the way up the stairs, stopping in front of Violet's acquaintance, and cracked his lopsided grin. "Just foolin', kopeng. I'm Keith."

As he held out his hand in greeting, he caught a whiff of something foul-smelling. "What smells like puke?"

Violet wrinkled her nose playfully up at Belter when he mentioned chopping up Inners. She realized that both men stood nearly a foot taller than herself and she internally grumbled about having to tilt her head back to look up at them.

"Found the lad in a bar drinkin' somethin' that would be better for runnin' old combustion engines than human consumption. It didnae sit well with him." She smirked slightly and padded back over to storage pantry that lined the wall in the mess hall. After a little digging around, she found what she was looking for -- paper towels to clean the flecks of puke off her boots.

"Eric, this is Keith. You might be able t'learn a thing or two some him. Keith, Eric." She muttered as she wiped down her boots with a frown. She glanced up at Eric from her spot in the kitchen, her foot resting on a stool that was bolted to the floor so she could clean the shoe. "Certainly hope y'weren't lyin', lad." She nodded towards Keith. "He'll be able to tell real quick if'n you were."

"Not lying." Eric said as he shook Keith's hand, pointedly ignoring both the question about puke and Violet's subsequent answer.

    He'd rather not revisit that.

There were few moments in this life that Eric really wanted to recall, and nearly puking on someone that he had only met about twenty minutes ago was not one of them. Hopefully he could do whatever they wanted done and then get a little money in his pocket, at least enough to swim him for a few days.

If not maybe a ride off of Tycho, that would suffice as well.

This place was ready to blow up any day now. "I can get it done, just need my stuff and a bit of time."

Not to mention a look at the system. He had no idea how old this ship was, though from the interior he could tell that it had likely been a decade or two since this place had seen any sort of drydock. That meant the systems were likely old, which of course would make his job a little easier.

Keith raised an eyebrow at the exchange between Violet and Eric. Placing his hands on his hips, he spoke when they finished. "What's going on? I must have missed that part."

He was becoming extremely curious about Eric. Violet saw it fit to bring him on board The Albatross, for what sounded like some sort of work or collaboration. It was then that Keith felt a vibration in his pocket, his hand terminal alerting him of an unread message. It just happened to be from Violet earlier.

"Ah," Keith held up his hand terminal, looking at her. "Missed this. It's not the fridge, keya? I'm fixing that now. Beer wasn't cold enough." His gaze went to Eric, and Keith gave a Belter shrug.

She chuckled a little at Keith, shaking her head and pulling her boot back down onto the floor, tossing the used paper towel into the trash. "Nae, I brought him here t'fix our little transponder and registration problem that we've been dealin' with, sasa ke?"

It might have been a little odd to hear Lang Belta spoken in her lilting accent, instead of the usual Belter twang that went with it, and it earned her a few odd looks every now and again, but she didn't seem to mind.

Her gaze drifted back to the Terran and she smirked up at him. "Any sort of equipment y'need? We can get it for ya."

He looked between the two of them. For a moment he wasn't entirely sure that he was the only one not entirely sober. This Keith person seemed to be somewhat out of it. Then again just waking up always did the same thing to him. Eric frowned for a moment, reaching into his pocket to pull out a small cigarette.

"No." He said as he began to fish around his body for a lighter. "Don't think so."

This would be pretty easy in his estimation. He still needed to take a look at the ships actual systems, but the tag and transponder would be fairly easy. Civilian models were usually designed not to be messed with, most would fry into slag when you touched them the wrong way, but Eric knew how to get around that fairly well.

It was one of the first tricks he'd learned. "I have my own tools."

One of which he'd stolen from the UN navy, but there was no need to tell these two about that.

He leaned down and began to fish through his pack, eventually plucking out an oddly discolored Hand Terminal as well as a few long prodding wires.

Keith nodded. That transponder had been nothing but trouble, even for him. He was not admitting defeat, but it was taking him longer to figure out than he was used to. He felt no offense in letting this stranger try his hand. Maybe he would see something Keith did not.

"By all means," Keith said, spreading his arms. "As you can see, she's a luxury boat with top-of-the-line equipment." He limped his way to the table and sat across from Violet. "Poke around, we'll see what you come up with, ya?"

Keith's focus went back to his hand terminal. He sent a response to Violet's message.

    >You trust this guy? I don't like him poking around. We should be safe from sabatage or prying eyes. I spent a lot of time securing the operation suite.

Keith pocketed the hand terminal and looked back up at Violet. His hands were shaking a tad. "Seen Dee around?"

Keith's shaking hands were the first thing that she noticed and she frowned slightly. She knew what was causing that. The hand terminal buzzed in her pocket, but she didn't immediately check it, suspecting that it was from the Belter.

She shook her head in response to his question. "I thought he'd be here but... my guess is that he's out at a bar or a casino." It wasn't the first time Dieter had snuck off to find himself some sort of entertainment and she doubted that it would be the last.

When Eric pulled his strange toolset from his bag, Violet quirked a brow with an inquisitive expression. She rummaged into her pocket to produce her hand terminal to check the message and quickly sent a response.

    >Not saying I trust him, but the kid was in a bad spot and seemed like he could use the help. I trust you to make sure he doesn't try to cause trouble in the system though, this is your area.

She set the hand terminal down on the table in front of her and she sighed softly. Hopefully, she wouldn't have to drag a drunken Dieter back to the ship too.

Drumming her fingers on the metal table, she looked down to Eric. "That jus' looks unpleasant..."
