Leaning against the railings, Du Plessis looked down on the club floor from over his hooked nose. Pulse had a split level, with the upper half being more subdued. Today it was railed off for 'private functions' which meant OPA meetings. Not the sensitive kind, just various factions that operated on Tycho enjoying table service and loud music.

Except for Du Plessis. He didn't appear to be enjoying himself. A shadow appeared on his shoulder.

"They haven't asked for you at the bar, but we think it's the two on the table there," said the shadow.

"Thank you Rickard," Du Plessis muttered back. The man beside him was said to have made his mark in the OPA dealing with UN spies. He was said to have a reputation for strangling them with his bare hands. Du Plessis didn't put much stock in rumour, but it wouldn't have surprised him.

"Did you use you actual name in the message?" Rickard asked.

"I hate dis cloak and dagger kaka. I was happy running a team of techies decrypting messages for Fred," Du Plessis bemoaned.

"You survived." It wasn't said in a nice way. Almost as if Rickard felt there had been more qualified people for the role who hadn't survived the internal scuffle that had led to a shoot out across the ops deck. "Nothing in their background stands out. I'll go fetch them."

Du Plessis headed for his quiet corner whilst Rickard took the steps down to the lower half of the club. He was tall and slender, but carried a heavy air of malice wherever he went. He was dressed in simple black cargo trousers and a jacket, but his clothes never seemed to hang off him right.

Rickard arrived at their table and planted his hands on it. "You two here to meet someone?" he asked plainly, raising his voice over the driving beat of the music.

A pair of large hands were on the table where Adam had wanted a bulb of tea to sit. He didn't like that. Another thing that he didn't like was that his partner in maybe-crime, Hex, seemed to have zoned out, so Adam would have to talk to the slightly menacing belter that had just joined them.

Admittedly, someone else might have described him as "very menacing", and even Adam would have, under normal circumstances. Normal, that is, being circumstances where enough tea was available. The distinct lack of such beverages tended to make Adam slightly more annoyed and risk friendly towards the common OPA strong-arm man.

Adam looked up into the mans face. "Depends. You here to fetch us? Frankly, I wouldn't know. My partner here", he pointed at Hex' face, "is the contact man. But as you can see", Adam snapped his fingers just below Hex' nose, "he isn't really with us at this moment."

A waitress arrived, delivering a steaming bulb that Adam gratefully accepted. He closed his eyes as he inhaled the herbal smell of the tea.

"So, there anything I can help you with?"

Rickard gave an amused snort in the direction of the man who had apparently started to snooze at the table. The belter took a seat uninvited. He had told Morne that he would fetch them both and he didn't like to disappoint.

"Well, bossmang is up on the next level and wanted to start the meeting that..." Rickard turned towards Hex. "... your partner here arranged. It's not for me to know the details but there was mention of a good premium for some difficult cargo."

"So...you want to go talk to Du Plessis and speak for the both of you whilst I mind him or do you want something a little more jarring to wake up him?"

That lemonade was just so good.

No, that wasn't true. It still tasted as shitty as it had the last time he'd been here, but the memories..
So many good deals had been done with a nice, much-too-warm bulb or glass filled with the stuff.
He felt himself drifting away for a second, just a second..

Someone appeared at the table beside him, as if he had just been beamed there like in these ancient space soap operas. Maybe a little more time had passed than anticipated.

Hex sat up straight, and nearly spilled his lemonade on the newcomer. "Oh, Oye Beratna.. Musta been distracted fo' a second.. It's been a busy week, y'know?"
Hex stood up. It felt appropriate. "No need to do anything drastic, yes? Please," he added. "Bring us to this Plessis guy. Ya don't wanna to miss our excellente deal."
Well. That wasn't his most charismatic response, but he was still a little lethargic from this great local drink. It would all work out.

He gestured for Adam to rise as well.

Adam downed his tea in one sip. It was no way to drink a good leaf juice, and it burned in his mouth like he had swallowed a blob of molten thermite, but he figured the pain would keep him alert and that showing up with a drink in hand might be considered rude in a business negotiation. Not that he was entirely sure if belters considered it rude to begin with.
He disposed of the empty bulb, drew a breath and stood up.
The OPA muscle that had been sent to fetch them lead them towards some stairs that connected up into an upper level. Adam would have not gone there of his own accord, not only because the upper level was further from the bars exits, but also because of the two armed men with very visible OPA tatoos guarding them.

Whole lotta muscle for just a simple busniess meeting. There more going on? he thought as one of the guards checked him for weapons, while the other one was doing the same with Hex. The guard finished his search and gave Adam a belter nod, allowing him to pass.

Is this a joke? The belter hadn't found the taser. Ah, screw it! Adam casually pulled out the electro shocker and presented it to the guard.

"You are not so good at your job, are you, Freundchen? he asked the man.

Du Plessis was wondering how exactly he'd ended up here. Six months ago his team had been trying to decrypt intercepted UN Navy comms. Now it seemed he was trying to pretend to be a Bond villain.

Rickard took the device and shrugged. Du Plessis was a grumpy bastard so if the haulers had given him a shock they wouldn't have felt too bad after shooting the other two.

"Alright...everyone awake and at da right table," Morné said. He gave an exaggerated wave towards the opposite chairs with his long, slender arm. There wasn't much to be gained from seeing them face to face. It had turned out that he couldn't see through people all that well. It was just a case of not splashing the details over the network.

"Seventy cases, three hundred kilos each. Not to be searched by da coalition."

While he waited for his partner in cargo-crime to respond, as it had been @Hex Ahmed who'd set up this meeting after all, Adam ran the numbers for the information he had been given. It was a bit unusual for him, not knowing what would be in these "cases", and that would make his calculations a bit imprecise, but what else could he do.

Assuming the cases contain something more dense than water, and why wouldn't they, that would mean that the absolute upper limit for volume would be equivalent to 300 kilos of water. Times that by seventy and we'd have 21 cubic metres of water, and less so of mystery cases. Fits in the compartment for undeclared cargo.

Hex had still not opened his mouth, so Adam decided to let a bit of the martian out and show some initiative.

"That we can do. We will need decoy cargo though. In case the coalition does notice and search us, we would be hard pressed to explain an empty cargo hold. So if you", he scanned the room, "or any of your people could provide something inconspicuous we could stuff in our hold, I'd be very grateful."
